What I am here to inform you about is how one of the major countries and why one of the biggest powers in the world played a big part in World War I. This... In their attempts to break the stalemate between the Allied and Central forces, both sides turned to science and technology. The Germans were the first to use chemical warfare on the Western Front. With their first use of chlorine gas, they opened a huge hole stretching four miles in width. The French troops had retreated in the face of the gas. The Canadian forces at Ypres quickly closed this breach. After this use of chemicals in the war and after seeing the results of it, both side's troops were equipped with gas masks in order to prevent the functionality of it in the future. This too was used in All Quiet on the Western Front (Remarque 68). In the later stages of the War, the Allied forces placed a naval blockade on Germany. This greatly affected the morale of the troops and the production in the country. In order to counteract this, the government published articles on how the troops were in good spirits and how all was well at the front.

It's all aesthetics and wildly inventive, for lovers of cult film and the language of cinema. I loved it. Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2019 Verified Purchase I watched "The Strange color of your body's tears" and was wowed by the great cinematography and music. But I was more than disappointed by the actual story, or lack of it. The trailer for this movie led me to believe these filmmakers had overcome their aversion to coherence and would hit it out of the ballpark this time. Again, there are trippy visuals, excellent music (from Morricone and others), interesting characters and bits of plot starting to come together,... only to disintegrate at the end. I can handle abstraction, and appreciate the nods they give Italian films from the past, but unless you are a big fan of style over substance the development and end of this film will underwhelm you. Above all for me this is not a movie I would watch again, which is less than I can say about most of the Italian films they pay homage to.

Taking a breather from the routine grind of have-to's and deadlines, we are invited to pause and meditate on the narrative presented onscreen, enabling us to connect with certain truths embedded within its structure that we are often too busy or worn down to consider. This happened to me on a recent plane ride while watching Susan Lacy 's masterful documentary, " Jane Fonda in Five Acts, " where the screen legend makes a transformative discovery about her late mother, who she felt never loved her. Only after learning of the bipolar disorder that drove her mother to suicide was Fonda able to reach a sense of closure about both of her distant parents. "Their incapacity to love wasn't because you weren't worthy of love, but because they too have been wounded, and then you can forgive, " Fonda notes. "It goes from one generation to another, and somebody's got to break the cycle. "
